KOREAN GIANT Samsung said it has started sampling 512Mbit samples of GDDR3.

It claims this is the highest density yet available for the memory type, which will go into mass production early in the new year.

Samsung started shipping 256Mbit versions of GDDR3 a year or so ago, and claims to hold the lead in market share for this type of memory, which is used by graphics card and games console makers.

Samsung claims that the market for DRAM for the graphics market in 2005 will rise by 30 per cent, reaching a worldwide value of around $1.5 billion.
