Valve opens bots

VALVE HAS released 'Bots' for the new version of Counter-Strike: Source.
The bots mean that gamers can now get that authentic CS:S experience whilst playing offline, and servers can be populated fully with a mixture of real humans and fake ones.

The A.I. that has gone into the bots has been designed to make them behave as much like humans as possible. While they may not team-kill you or call your mother 'gay', they feature an advanced attention system that takes into account gunfire, cover, distance, motion and posture when looking out for opponents.

The bots are adept at the myriad of tactics that go with each CS:S map and will 'rush' or hang back accordingly. For those moments of fire from an unseen attacker, the bot has a handy 'panic' mode, which will cause it to spin around wildly whilst running for cover. Good to know that it's backing you up, right?

The bot add-on also features a new map, de_tides, and updates to a few older maps including de_cbble, cs_office and de_dust2. Not only that, but a change in processing methods means that high-end CPUs, like the Athlon 64 series, could see a 5% frame rate increase.
