Red Hat is believed to be planning a major upgrade to its Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system that will fully support the latest Linux 2.6 kernel for the first time.
The launch is expected to take place at the Linux World event in the US next month, although Red Hat is not commenting on the details.
It is expected that the company will launch Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0. The company launched version 3.0 of this product at the end of 2003, and the software is due a major upgrade to take advantage of recent advances in Linux technology.
The Linux 2.6 kernel is the engine room of the latest commercial Linux solutions on the market, and fully supporting this platform will help Red Hat to stay a leading player in the Linux market.
