Once the screws have been tightened into the frame the hard disk can be then placed directly into the unit. You can then proceed to connect the hard disk up to the IDE cable and molex connector for power.
Due to the design of the unit Mapower has included a small piece of rubber. This is used to place on top of the metal lid and used prevent movement of the IDE drive within the enclosure.
Above the grilles used on the enclosure allow your Hard Disk to get maximum breathing without taking away the look of the unit.
It is just then a matter of closing up the enclosure and plugging in the unit to a Power Supply and to the USB 2.0 port of your PC. Windows XP Detected the unit without any problems and detected it successfully as a removable device.
To Mount the drive vertically Mapower has included a stand. This stand is pictured below with the unit connected and is as simple to connect the unit as placing it under the unit and locking it into place with the fin like sides of the unit.
Conclusion
This enclosure from Mapower fantastic. I have been a very big fan of portable storage for a long time but have always found external enclosures to be big and clunky. They often weigh excessively as well and this really brings them down. This unit from Mapower has it all. With its aluminium construction to aid in making it lightweight and to keep it cool, its unique grilles to add extra benefit for hard disk cooling, the ability to as well have USB 2.0 + Firewire in one unit and of course just the look of the unit, this makes a great choice in anyone looking for an external enclosure for there portable storage solution. This wins the AusPCWorld Gold Award.
